Curb-to-Curb Service

C.A.R.R. provides "curb-to-curb" service.  The following policies explain the meaning and intent of curb-to-curb.

Private homes:

  • Transit bus operators will not enter private homes for any reason.

  • Bus operators may assist passengers to board and to exit the vehicles only.

Business/Medical facilities/Public building:

  • Transit bus operators may assist passengers to board and to exit the vehicle only.  Bus operators will not assist passenger past this point.

  • It is the individual's, personal care attendant, or care provider's responsibility to ensure that passengers are on time and waiting for their ride.

  • Bus operators will not enter nursing homes, medical facilities, shopping centers, or businesses in an attempt to find passengers.  Passengers must be waiting at the designated pick-up point.

Door to door service for elderly and disabled passengers upon request will be provided.  (Remember - drivers are not permitted to enter a passenger's home.

SERVICE FOR WHEELCHAIR USERS

Service will be provided utilizing specialized equipment (lifts, ramps, etc.) for wheelchair users. C.A.R.R. reserves the right to refuse service for unsafe equipment (I.E. unsafe wheelchairs, and other mobility devices.)

C.A.R.R. bus operators are not allowed to assist passengers in wheelchairs up or down any steps. If such condition exists, passengers are responsible for arranging assistance from someone other than C.A.R.R. bus operator.

Accommodation of Common Wheelchairs:
C.A.R.R. will accommodate common wheelchairs. Common wheelchairs are devices, which do not exceed 30 inches in width and 48 inches in length when measured two inches above the ground, and do not weigh more than 800 pounds when occupied. Any passenger who utilizes a wheelchair device for mobility shall insure the brakes on the wheelchair are in working order before transportation can be provided.

Accommodation of Non-Conventional Wheelchairs:
City And Rural Rides will make every reasonable effort to accommodate various wheelchair models available to passengers. However, due to the increasing size and weight of such equipment, some limitations will be necessary in order to insure the safe transport of these wheelchairs and passengers. The following policy will apply to all oversized, three-wheeled, or other non-conventional wheelchairs.

Passengers may be allowed to ride on small, non-conventional wheelchairs, and may independently transfer to a regular vehicle seat once inside the vehicle. If the passenger is unable to independently transfer, either an attendant may assist them or the passenger will be allowed to stay in non-conventional wheelchairs.
